Today, in their blog targeting webmasters and web designers, Google announced a new initiative that will tag mobile-friendly sites in search results, making it easier for mobile device users to select websites that will work well on their devices.
Initially, the only change will be a tag, but Google dropped a subtle bomb later in the article:
“We see these labels as a first step in helping mobile users to have a better mobile web experience. We are also experimenting with using the mobile-friendly criteria as a ranking signal.”
The writing is on the wall. In the near future, we expect non-mobile-friendly websites to do poorly in Google rankings.
